We had a special visit from our "Utah boys" last month. We crammed as much as we could in that week. We would talk about the moon, especially if I had him without his dad. This boy loved airplanes and cars. He would sit and play with my garage and my cars, especially the two blue Sally cars for hours. Loved, loved, loved having Caleb and his dad. It still trips me out to see pictures of Joseph with no hair and so skinny. Navy boot camp here he comes :(
We aren't real picky about whether it is the Summer or Winter ones. This year was no exception. I struggled through a week of little sleep, as we stayed up late every night seeing some exciting race.
The grandkids really got into the action this time. Laura's crew all picked their favorite countries and charted medals. Thanks to Pinterest and all the ideas she saw flying around, Laura decided to host an Olympic party for a few friends......A LOT of friends turned out. It was very hot, but the kids had a blast. She had stations set up all over the yard. The kids had flags, official looking bibs, and Laura had done some cute Olympic themed snacks. While the grown-ups thought they would perish from the heat (she doesn't have much shade in her yard), the kids had a wonderful time, which made it all worth it. I didn't get any more pictures than the set-up and the aftermath, but it was all a lot of fun.Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-55980884459663559822012-08-31T20:19:00.001-07:002012-08-31T20:20:15.760-07:00Beach Treasure Bags

A friend of mine had me make these bags for her grandchildren to take to the beach! Perfect for shell seekers and other great finds at the beach. She had seen them here. They turned out cute. I never heard how they kids liked them......I hope that doesn't mean they didn't :( I know a few little beachcombers who need some of these. I will have to add these to list of "to make" for next beach season! Have a great Labor Day!
A friend/co-worker asked me at the end of the school year if I would be willing to make a t-shirt quilt for her High School graduate. I had not done one before, but knew I could. But like most things I do for other people, and especially for money....I stressed about it. I had two baby quilts to do before I would even start it, but there was a deadline. I finished Evie's quilt and got it mailed, got Declan's quilt put together (quilting still in progress) and knew it was time to get started. The worst part was having to decide which t-shirt to use in the squares. Viki had narrowed down the shirts, but we didn't want the quilt to be too huge. I found several tutorials on-line, looked at how different ones were done, and came up with a plan. Viki picked out a plaid flannel for the back and we decided on a navy to strip it in. I did three rows of 5 shirts down the middle with a row of half shirts, turned side ways down each side. I then machine quilted it. It turned out well and Viki seemed to like and she said her son liked it too. I was very glad when it was done.Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-26587207829905353092012-08-23T18:08:00.000-07:002012-08-23T18:08:17.020-07:00It's Summer! PartyI thought we needed to celebrate since school was out and summer had officially began. I found these cute bingo cards here. I believe you have to pay a little but it was worth it.

I made a set and took to Utah and Claire and I played Bingo everyday (I was worried she would want to keep playing after the M & M's ran out - but we found some bottle caps and kept on playing).

I probably need to come up with a little more variety, because the first thing Jamison said when they came for the It's Summer! party, "I bet we are going to play Bingo with M & M's". I guess I am too predictable. The nice thing about picture bingo is everyone can play. Here are a few pictures from our party.
Balloons are always a favorite. Hanging them from the ceiling when you are not doing helium is pretty cool too. The kids loved it. We tried to do some water balloons but my sinks didn't fit the attachment well. I didn't get pictures, but everyone got 2 or 3 and they enjoyed throwing them. We didn't do a lot at this party, put having special treats, a take home bag and calling it party, seems to make everyone happy. It was a great start to the summer.

I wish I didn't like to do so many things, and then Pinterest came along and made my list a whole lot longer. One of the things I saw on Pinterest were these with a great tutorial and pattern. Daniel plays golf in a program called The First Tee and I thought they would make great covers for a few of his clubs. I got all the stuff together in January and finally got them made in June for his second tournament :)
I wasn't completely happy with the noses, and would do them differently, but all in all they turned out pretty good. He had someone offer to buy them in one of his tournaments. That always makes me smile!Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-56024900790324004102012-08-18T11:24:00.000-07:002012-08-18T11:26:20.716-07:00Busy Life of a Yaya - take 2May is always a crazy time when you teach preschool and have children in school. It seems everything that you can possibly think of happens weekly and sometimes daily. I teach at a great preschool and forgot that we get a nice end-of-year bonus.....until the beginning of May. The light bulb went off and I booked my ticket for Utah to see that new grandbaby (and her siblings, and her parents). During those last few weeks of May our sweet Zoë was having some health issues. It started with a lump on the side of her neck and ended with a diagnosis of a different kind of TB (usually found in 3rd world countries and comes from eating dirt - so Zoë). Surgery was needed but the doctors were waiting for "just the right time"- which meant MANY trips to the ER by the daddy (mommy had a new baby). Surgery was finally scheduled for the last day of preschool and the day before I was to leave for Utah. I couldn't take the last day off or not easily. Longer story short, she had the surgery (they had to scrape it and couldn't remove it because of where is was located on her neck)- things went great and she didn't have to stay and they were able to come home by lunch. Zoë drugged was hiliarious - but that is a whole different post/story. Anyway, it made for a hectic and worrisome last few days/hours before boarding my plane.
Here are a few pictures from my visit to see my Utah Brewer's:
I was there on Memorial Day and Joseph and Katie's Church leader manages this cool trampoline/bounce place. He let 5 or 6 families come before it opened. It was so much fun to watch. My Joseph has always loved to bounce and he has always loved heights. He didn't disappoint me with his "tricks".

They had a promotion there in Utah in the Spring where Joseph and Katie were able to get these passes for like $10 a piece and had unlimited access to several parks. There kids were free. We visited one of the places while I was there. One of the things we did while there was play miniature golf. Bubba would hit for awhile and then go and put his ball in the hole - golf Bubba style!
I was in a good swing of blogging there for a while....but not lately! This spring has been crazy busy, teaching preschool, sewing, playing with children, playing Yaya, and meeting new babies. It was all fun! Here are a few pictures! I was able to hang out with these guys during Spring break when Declan Jacob Bell arrived! The day before Evalyn Jayne Brewer arrived. Her newborn picture is here. I must say that playing with my grandbabies (even the ones that aren't babies anymore), is the highlight of any day/week/month/year. I love my children, but I just don't think they were this much fun.
I have been busy sewing as well. Two new babies means two new quilts, and sadly neither are finished as of this writing, though one is pieced and 1/2 way quilted!
Laura wanted some of these Pottery Barn envelopes that are out of stock. I started without a pattern, using the meaurements on the site. They turned out pretty good. I should have made the straps a little longer, but they work. Even though they have a heart on them, they would be perfect for other special occasions - birthdays, just a "your are special day" to give a special treat or love note. Children always need to know you love them. In case the soon-to-be newest Bell comes during the night, what a cool way to let all the kids know! (Note to self....since I probably will be the one home with them :))Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-44582796996703171042012-02-04T12:23:00.000-08:002012-02-04T12:23:35.856-08:00Valentine Party

Today we had a great Valentine party. Daniel decided he wanted to be at this one, and though he was a little bored, he did a great job playing with the kids. We played Valentine Bingo that I found here (thank you Pinterest). It was perfect for my 3-6 year olds. We then played Tic-Tac-Toe that I found here. The girls moved on to our art projects while the boys kept playing their version. Daniel made it challenging by going way far away from the board. I really didn't pay too much attention to exactly what they were playing....all I know is they had a good time and Jamison was having fun. A co-worker had given me a container of Love Bug stickers. I had used the die cut machine at work and cut out a bunch of hearts from some of my stash of scrap book paper (making sure I had a few sparkles in there). I had the idea for them to make creatures (thinking Jamison would like that) from the heart shapes, but the girls were more interested in just making pictures. I printed off this for the kids to use the Love Bug stickers. We are going to do this for preschool too. The last art project was painting with a mixture of shaving cream/school glue/red paint. It makes it puffy. Jamison did do a little art project using the hearts and making monsters with lots of googlie eyes and large mounds of glue for the nose and mouth.
We came upstairs and had grilled cheese sandwiches on heart plants, their choice of chips and special soda. I bought the half size Wal-mart brand lemon-lime soda, opened it and put one drop of food coloring in it and it made it pink. They thought that was cool.
Yesterday I made some treats. I took a double heart cookie cutter, made rice krispie treats, adding some pink food coloring and molded them. I used this idea, though I didn't use strawberry marshmallows, for marshmallow pops. The favorite was the pretzel/Hershey Kiss/M&M treat. Everyone went home with a ballon, marshmallow pops, their plates and cups. It is so much fun being Yaya. It is always a little bitter sweet.....I don't get to do these things with my Utah Brewers. I think a "Party in a Box" needs to head their way this week. Daniel was upset the littlest Bell didn't come but I made sure she had a ballon, plate and cup. We will include her in our Easter party. Happy Saturday!Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-87004501731728848412012-01-26T17:14:00.000-08:002012-01-26T17:14:16.681-08:00Felt Obsession

Felt.....I have never been a huge fan. I haven't enjoyed working with until lately. A co-worker started bringing in these cute felt board figures and so it began. I recently made these eskimos and penguins for our unit at preschool on Artic Animals. These turned out adorable. I am not sure why the single ones are turned the wrong way....they are not that way when I look at them on Windows Explorer. Next up on the felt board figures.....a train. Transportation is our unit next week.
Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-29063470751077248272012-01-07T13:55:00.000-08:002012-01-07T13:55:12.219-08:00Baby Shirts

We decorated gingerbread houses last year and we enjoyed it so much I decided I want to make it a tradition. I still haven't figured out how to include our Utah Brewer's in the fun, but I am open to ideas. I fixed invitations and handed them out on Thanksgiving. The goal was to get my single adult kids on a day they wouldn't be working and catch Jason in town. We figured on the second Sunday in December. The grand kids asked me every time they saw me was time for the party yet. I made a made list of the candy I thought we would like and still forgot plenty. I am saving on the computer and adding the things we wished we would have had so hopefully we will do better next time. I spend several weeks, everytime I went to the grocery store collecting the candy.

I used Wilton boards I bought at Joann's in a pack for the base. I believe they were 10" circles. I used 2 boxes of graham crackers for the houses, but wished I would have gotten 3 because I had to piece a couple of walls in a few houses. There is always breakage in the packages. I used Royal Icing from Wilton for the cement for my houses. I doubled or tripled the recipe, and we almost ran out. I need to quadriple it next year. I built all the houses the night before.

Everyone came straight here after Church that day, we had a quick, but nice lunch of French dip sandwiches, chips, and a salad. Rick asked what dessert I was fixing....who needs dessert when you are going to be decorating houses and eating candy?

The best part was, though we missed her, Zoë slept through the whole thing. 16 month olds and a project like this, just don't mix!

Hint: I don't every decorate- though I keep planning to do mine ahead of time- you really need one person to be the helper, especially with the children. The parents helped the children too, but I like watching and seeing everyone...plus someone needs to document the fun! A whole year since I posted last! I promise- there has been lots of fun with Yaya around here....I will have to find some pictures.

My friend has a Halloween Party every year with her grandkids and the pictures look like such fun. So I decided to start that tradition. We had the First annual Halloween Party at Yaya's house. We decided not to invite Zoë - but she was missed. I especially missed Miss Claire! She would have made the party perfect.
We played Monster Bingo with MandM's, made a picture with Halloween foamies, played pin the Spider on the Web, made stuffed bats, read a Halloween book, ate candy, etc. Here are some pictures of the kids with their scariest face and the Dracula cape. I wish I had put make-up on them....next year....we will do costumes and decorate graham cracker Haunted Houses!Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-72969286850701061372011-09-04T13:03:00.000-07:002011-10-16T10:37:31.663-07:00Family Pictures
4 Generations of Brewers...Caleb carries the line.

A visit with Great Grandma and Great Deda.

My wonderful children...being them.

The Bells.

Jill.

Jacob

Just us 3 left in the house. We had a great time and I know it will be a while before we are all together again. I am glad I have pictures to savor the moment.

Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-33892570429280546052011-05-01T16:18:00.000-07:002011-05-01T17:03:54.787-07:00Yaya Week Part 1<img style="display: block; I am grateful Katie blogs every week - or I would miss out!

Laura and Jason took a little trip a few weeks ago and I got to keep the big kids - they took Zoë. We had a great time (I did at least- they might say it was "boring" - who knew they would know that word so young?). Sisi went to a birthday party during a bad thunderstorm - and Jamison, Paige and I went to Old McDonald's for lunch. It rained the hardest going out of McDonald's and retrieving Sisi from her party. I was drenched (she had an umbrella). Monday we went to Funnigan's with some passes Laura had for us. The kids had a blast. Tuesday we went to Reynolda (I confess-I have never been) and walked around the trails and pond, saw turtles, played in the creek, had leaf races, saw underwear in a tree - what more can you ask for? Here are a few pictures.

My card was full so I didn't get pictures of our big "adventure".

Yaya week part 2 coming soon.Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-16431744796119482302010-10-17T07:18:00.000-07:002010-10-17T07:22:29.784-07:00A few more picturesI meant to find this one this summer after seeing the video of Claire in the pool. I needed a new bag for preschool to take our First Aid kit, etc. out to the playground.

I couldn't find a picture of the original apron - but I turned it into a bag. My class is the Busy Bees, and I had been wearing this apron at work, but it wasn't working for me. I left the cute pockets on, used the straps from the apron for the handles, put some different gingham to line it and put a pocket on the interior made from the bodice of the apron.

I was pleased...what do you think?Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5011327731993637670.post-16677588399622225282010-07-18T15:55:00.000-07:002010-07-18T16:08:53.846-07:00Summer Fun

Rick and Daniel left for a week of Boy Scout Camp on July 4th. I spent the evening with some of my favorite people to watch the fire works. The Bell family met some friends and let me tag along.

We are having a great summer. I have worked one week and will work another one starting tomorrow. We have been going to the pool a couple times a week, Daniel is playing golf some every week - with that picking up to several days a week. I have been walking everyday with my 70 something neighbor and even though it is still very hot at 7:00 am, it still does a body (and mind) good!

I have been cleaning out and have only scratched the surface - or I should say not even began to scratch the surface. I sold a bunch of fabric on Craigs List and then Laura and I went to Ikea one day and I got some cool things. I have more pictures to post another day.Yayahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17624218900053666748noreply@blogger.com0
